Happy, and hospitable: Country.

You don’t have to live in a rustic barn to have a Country kitchen, we’ve installed hundreds of Country styled kitchens across metropolitan Melbourne. These kitchens create a genuine feeling of warmth, they have soul and character, whether that’s rustic, vintage or just simple country.

Natural wood and timbers are a trademark of the charming Country kitchen – round, generous handles, marble bench tops and intricate detailing in the cupboard facades. Typical kitchens include large, multipurpose drawers and cupboards (country cooks need space for their large pots and pans!), open spaces and open shelving, ensuring your plates, utensils and decorative items are visible and easily accessible. Finally, a quality timber finish is vital for the rustic Country kitchen; whether it be a warm, polished wood finish, or a grey-brown wood with visible grain, there will be a style to suit your space.

Characteristics

These little nuggets of insight into the Country kitchen style aren’t exhaustive, but they’re a useful beginning to consider the different elements of kitchen design that you would like incorporated into your renovation and redesign.

Space & Light

  • Comfortable, and warmly lit farm-house feel.

  • Open up those windows, and consider glass cabinetry to accentuate and catch that fresh country breeze.

  • Dark or light, timber and wooden floors with traditional wide boards.

Cabinetry & Benchtops

  • Beautifully crafted whitewashed wood, smooth patina cabinetry.

  • Choose updated stone, concrete or timber benchtops – or tiled benchtops for a real vintage vibe.

  • Consider open display shelving, for easy access and country flavour.

  • Crown molding framing cabinetry, a classic component of a French country kitchen.

  • Try a chimney-style wood hood surround, with leaded glass cabinets.

Colours & Materials

  • Warm and muted colour palette, reflecting the natural elements of the countryside.

  • Stay earthy, but consider deep tones like cabernet, or rich tones like hunter green.

  • Expose your wood, and incorporate natural materials.

  • Brushed brass and copper for a more modern country style.

Custom Ideas & Accents

  • Add a butler’s pantry for convenience, and that rustic feel.

  • Celebrate nature with botanical print upholstery.

  • Hang your cookware, for display and functionality.

  • Accentuate with richly coloured appliances, or wrought-iron vintage accents.

We’ve done two full house projects with Wood Wizards including custom joinery for our kitchen, laundry, wardrobes, wall units, vanities & home office. The staff are very attentive, knowledgeable and helpful, and nothing was ever too much trouble. We like to support local business and having the showroom closeby on Nepean Hwy in Bentleigh was not only convenient, but also offered a great choice of materials and finishes. Most importantly, the quality of workmanship is second to none and we are delighted with the end result on both our houses.
